GENERAL SYNOPSIS: ON BOARD THE TRES HOMBRES
Today it is our 4th day at sea and this was celebrated with a nice fudgecake Rianne our cook made. By the way the lunch was great too. I like soup and especially tomato soup! Fresh bread was made by Eagle Eye Joël. It has been good at sea for the past days with plenty of downwind sailing making up to 10 knots at times. We will average about 200 miles a day when we arrive in Brava.
Here in Brava we will deliver donated gymnastic equipment for schools on Brava and Fogo the last one recently a volcano got erupted. Hetty van der Linden from Paint the Future is the initiator for this project. And Fairtansport is transporting it for free to these islands. Children are our future! On the island Brava we will stock up with a lot of fruits and salted meat and fish already prepared for us. Yes we have some good contacts on the island! Some years ago Erick and Marijke immigrated to the island and we sailed all there furniture, tools and books etc. to the island over the past years. They have a small place where they live of the land. Well vertical land so to say. I think I counted 36 terraces last time I was there. They liVe in a small house and have even a guest house for visitors.
Erick is starting to make his own rum brand in rum barrels that we used to transport our Tres Hombres rum in from the Dominican Republic. Wine is also on the way growing slowly on the hills. So to say Brava is a paradise!
For sure Brava will be another adventure!
Wonderful progress towards west yesterday. The front is passing now with rain and the wind died. We brailed up the main and braced square. It is the trimming for waiting for any kind of wind. The ship is heading north but drifts east. We can only try to drift slower what we don’t want now […]
“They call it the Caribbean of the North”…where you can have buckets of liquid sunshine and imagine coconuts growing on city lights. Welcome to the magical experience that is sailing a cargo of 19.000 bottles of natural French wines to Denmark. Telling a story about the last two weeks is not easy. So many beautiful […]
The departure maneuver in Copenhagen was super cool and smooth! It is great to move a big sailing ship like this in a harbor under sails. Nowadays being under sails inside a port is forbidden. I allowed us to do it because it’s possible and it’s very important to understand your ship under all circumstances, […]
