Description
After more than 20 years of aging on the volcano, this rum experienced an eruption just before our good ship arrived in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Only nature and the skills of rum maker José have influenced this spirit. It was distilled on a wood fire from locally made Guarapo, and later matured in Spanish oak barrels. The rum then matured for another year in Pineau des Charentes and Sherry Oloroso barrels.
What does Captain's Choice mean?
Captain's Choice is a special limited edition. So there is only a limited number of bottles. It is literally the best rum as only the captain can choose. The difference with the non-Captain's Choice bottles is of course not only in the fact that this rum is still at cask strength and has not been drained. Of course, the captain doesn't tell all the secrets either...!
Origin and distillation
20 years after maturation, this characterful and strong rum finally left the island in Pineau des Charentes and Sherry Oloroso barrels.
The sugar cane is grown on Aldea's own fields. It is grown without the addition of fertilizers or pesticides. After distillation, the rum matured for 20 years in ex-Bourbon and Spanish oak barrels before receiving a second maturation in the cargo hold of the Tres Hombres.
Because the ship is constantly in motion, contact with the wood is intensified again. The Pineau des Charentes and Sherry Oloroso casks infused the spirit during the time on board for a memorable finish.
Design
The design of this special bottle was made by one of the crew members. The beautiful drawing represents the work of the figurehead of the Tres Hombres.
Bottling
The rum of this Captain's Choice selection was bottled entirely by Stokerij Amsterdam with the help of the Tres Hombres team.
