For a unique project, the Paint a Future and Sport for Children Foundations, as well as the sustainable transport company Fairtransport BV, join forces to make the dream of a Brazilian girl come true. Eight-year-old Samantha wants to become an Olympic gymnastics champion!
A few years ago Samantha, from the Brazilian town of Florianopolis, painted her future dream for Paint a Future. American artist Dick Robberts felt inspired by Samantha’s dream and made a beautiful painting. This painting has fetched a whopping € 3500! Royal Talens has had a relationship with Paint a Future for years and always ensures there is enough paint available to realize these paintings.
Budding gymnast talent
Due to Samantha’s desperate home situation it was not possible to help her with this money directly. Thankfully, there is a ray of hope in Samantha’s life: she excels in gymnastics! Irano Cavahlo, former member of the Brazilian Olympic gymnastics team, has included her in his group of five talented underprivileged children who train at a high level. His dream is to make these talented children Olympic youth champions!
Gymnastic equipment for future Olympic champions
The proceeds of Samantha’s painting was used for the first gymnastics apparatus and the production of a CD with Brazilian children singing a song. The proceeds of the production of the CD has been used to start the building of a gymnastics school.
Of course, one gymnastics apparatus is not enough to become an Olympic champion. Fortunately, the Dutch Sport for Children Foundation made a wonderful contribution to this special project. The foundation made a range of some fine gymnastics equipment available for the young Brazilian talents, including parallel bars, a beam, mats, a vaulting horse, etc.
Sail a future
The equipment is currently still in the Netherlands, but on 6 October 2014 the cargo ship Tres Hombres, full with gymnastics equipment, started sailing across the Atlantic Ocean towards Brazil. Primary school pupils painted the sails of the ship with Royal Talens paint. Environmentally-friendly and fair transport for a splendid cause! There is no better way to take gymnastic equipment to the future Olympic gymnasts.
