DAY 18 : LAND AHOY !
In the last few days we noticed more and more signs of the continent getting closer. The temperature of course is getting less, coastal sea birds started to appears in the sky. At the edge of the continental crust, we passed through a swam of fishing vessels all gathered at the limit of the international waters. Yesterday groups of dozens of sea birds, mix of different species, where flying around and next to the ship. We were heading north-east at that time, pushed by the south-easterly winds. Late in the night yesterday we saw the first flashes of the legendary Fastnet Rock lighthouse. One flash every five seconds ; the Fastnet guards the approaches of the south coast of Ireland. And then early in the morning, LAND AHOY, the cliffs of the Irish coast appeared after eighteen days of open ocean, looking quite terrible under heavy squall clouds. But Ireland is not our destination and soon we had to turn the ship around and head south aiming for Brittany and the entrance of the English Channel. We keep a very sharp look on the evolution of the weather and we hope to catch some southerly winds to help us into the channel before the end of the week.
We are looking forward to see you all again soon,

The 28th of April I woke up the Fo’c’sle at 5 o’clock in the morning. Good Morning everyone: time to pump up some anchor! Half an hour later the anchor was up and with a very small wind we moved up and down in the bay of Douarnenez. We stopped over here because we were […]
