White horses (Sylvester Langvad)

And the white horses shine like sparkling diamonds on dark blue velvet.

That was the view when I climbed the foremast. Just a few months ago, a landlubber through and through, I would hardly have understood what such a sentence meant.
Yet that was my first thought after almost two months at sea, sitting on top of the royal yard, in a place of solitude. On a crowded ship like the Tres, heaven is the only place where you can truly feel alone, with nothing but the wind in your ear and, admittedly, the occasional laugh or shout from the deck.

In less than a day we will reach Martinique, perhaps we have already done so the moment these words leave the ship. For me it will be the first time I set foot on land on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. I'm excited. I think about what it will feel like, no doubt like sand, dirt or concrete somewhere else. Probably warmer.

Everyone on this ship has their own feelings about the prospect of dropping anchor. It feels like some of us live for the simplicity of the sea, while others look forward to a chance to reconnect with loved ones. It will be a hello to new people, and possibly a goodbye to others. I would like to see a turtle.
