3 November 2014 - Fairtransport
It took a few days longer than expected, but eventually on Friday morning 31-10 the 5.400 bottles of Exeter Ale were on the quay and a few hours later in the hold of the Tres Hombres. Brixham is a nice town in the bay of Torbay and has also itself a small bay around which the town is built in layers against the rocky coast. It´s a popular holiday destination, so a lot of pubs and places to eat good (sea-)food. Not to mention my guilty pleasure; the traditional English breakfast. I had six, and could combine them with doing some internet. The people are interested and friendly. The weather in this area is mildly. A remarkable lot of men of all ages still walk around in shorts. As is Ben, who joined us here to sail along for a while. We introduced, and to make some conversation I started about the weather -what else?- It was quite misty, and I said: ‘Quite misty, huh?’ ‘Ask me where the mist comes from,´Ben replied . So I did. His answer:´I haven´t the foggiest…´ I like him.
The first days we were moored in the fishing port, which is restricted area. The last two days we were in the little bay, which falls dry at low tide, so some caulking could be done. Here we got a lot of public attention. Among whom a couple, that was involved into the annual organisation of the Pirate Festival, which was this year attended by a mere 20.000 people. They very much would like the Tres Hombres to be one of the festival´s highlights during the next edition, or a later one, in the beginning of May 2015. We should be in the neighborhood by then, so who knows?
We sailed out of the Brixham port in beautiful weather, but again Aeolus, the god of the winds, had other plans. A 7 Bft. storm was awaiting us. The Tres Hombres was prepared for it and so were we. It´s Sunday morning now and the weather is beautiful again. Great sailing.

Life on Tres Hombres has been an experience and a half! After a few years where we all had a life constraining effect from corona and a chance meeting with an old friend who had sailed on Tres Hombres previously my heart was set on an adventure. A sailing trip from Amsterdam to Les Sables […]
