GENERAL SYNOPSIS: ON BOARD THE TRES HOMBRES
Celebrating New Year and my birthday on the middle of the ocean feels really special. As far as I know the dry land might even have disappeared. Around us there has been only water for days, and days to come. On board we had a great celebration with rum-punch, pizza, and a dancing party on the cargo hatch. The spirits are high, also because of the good speed we are making!

I’m not the one fore homesickness, but on days like these I can’t help to think about how I normally spend New Years eve on land. I remember the good times I had celebrating my birthday with relatives and close friends. Drinking champagne under the Westertoren with my best friend. Dancing with my fellow hofbewoners in the Rijpenhofje. I remember gathering my friends in Amsterdam for my birthday and surprising them with my freshly cut dread-less head. I still see the priceless face of my brother when he saw my new haircut. I think back with pleasure at the good old times when I spend new year at my parents place and lighting a big bonfire with my brothers. Today is going to be added to those good memory’s, a great day of love and friendship on board the Tres Hombres where I feel secure and at home.

I wish my family and friends all well and I think about you all. A lot of love to my parents, a specially to my dad, who goes trough a hard time at the moment. Sometimes I wish I could be there with you, but at the same time I now my place is here, clipping along 10 knots on this amazing, unlimited, mighty ocean, that dwarfs our little ship and of witch the sheer size is humbling and breathtaking.

Wonderful progress towards west yesterday. The front is passing now with rain and the wind died. We brailed up the main and braced square. It is the trimming for waiting for any kind of wind. The ship is heading north but drifts east. We can only try to drift slower what we don’t want now […]
“They call it the Caribbean of the North”…where you can have buckets of liquid sunshine and imagine coconuts growing on city lights. Welcome to the magical experience that is sailing a cargo of 19.000 bottles of natural French wines to Denmark. Telling a story about the last two weeks is not easy. So many beautiful […]
The departure maneuver in Copenhagen was super cool and smooth! It is great to move a big sailing ship like this in a harbor under sails. Nowadays being under sails inside a port is forbidden. I allowed us to do it because it’s possible and it’s very important to understand your ship under all circumstances, […]
