As I sign off from the good ship Tres Hombres and bid a (temporary?) farewell to her and the incredible people who sail, operate, and support this unique zero-emission freight mission, I return home with a host of new experiences, insights, and inspirations. ⚓🌍
It’s fair to say I spent much of my time on board well outside my comfort zone: navigating an engineless cargo vessel through some of the world’s busiest waterways, constantly trimming her 13 finely balanced sails in ever-changing conditions, living a low-impact lifestyle at sea, and delivering emission-free cargo – all fully aligned with this good ship’s important mission.
And then there’s the meeting of two worlds: one that runs on tight schedules, flights to catch, and appointments to keep – and another that moves with the winds and currents, arriving in port only when the conditions allow. Two very different concepts of time (or perhaps, how we choose to impose ourselves on our surroundings).
This voyage has made me, I believe, not only a more seasoned sailor, but also a more aware human being and a better leader. Thank you, Tres Hombres, for your many life lessons – and thank you, Fairtransport, for showing that another way is possible.
Until we meet again… somewhere on the Seven Seas. 🙏
