The chocolate is made with organic cocoa butter made with the cocoa from the farmer's cooperative in Conacado in the Dominican Republic. The combination of the white chocolate along with the vanilla, sea salt and crunchy cacao nibs, is truly delicious.

The sailing vessel the Tres Hombres sails the Chocozeiltjes to the Netherlands only with power of the wind. This sustainable sailing trip begins in the Caribbean and brings the chocolate to Amsterdam in about four months, where it reaches its destination. This special sailing trip contributes to environmentally friendly transportation and honors the tradition of wind-driven shipping. This is also the home of the Chocolatemakers, who produce the finest chocolate.

So while enjoying this delicious chocolate, you are not only supporting the ship Tres Hombres, but also choosing sustainable transportation! Can chocolate taste any sweeter?

Additionally, the Chocolatemakers use the cocoa beans to produce "single origin" organic chocolate with manual craftsmanship, using only solar energy!

Let the wind take you and taste the power of real chocolate! Also available in 52% coffee chocolate and 70% dark chocolate.

The story

The life of the brigantine Tres Hombres began in 1943. At the time still without masts and in a wreck-like condition, she was discovered in 2007 by three friends in Delft, in the Netherlands. With an incredible amount of diligence and commitment from many volunteers, she was brought back to life. Within just over 2 years, we managed to fully restore and convert the ship into a sailing vessel that now crosses the Atlantic Ocean every year, sails the Northern European seas and travels these long transportation distances solely by the power of the wind.

Route

Map route Tres Hombres

The cocoa beans of this Chocozeiljes edition are collected in the Dominican Republic during the winter trip. The first crew boards in Den Helder on a ship that is once again in tiptop condition after the refit is completed. Trainees, and sometimes crew, change every now and then during the various stops made to load products or to stock up on food supplies.

Loading/unloading ports:

  • Douarnenez, France
  • Baiona, Spain
  • Santa Cruz de la Palma, La Palma
  • Fort-de-France, Martinique
  • Marie-Galante, Guadeloupe
  • Bridgetown, Barbados
  • Boca Chica, Dominican Republic
  • Horta, Azores

In Douarnenez and Baiona, previously used barrels are loaded that are later filled with the rum from La Palma and the Caribbean islands. These barrels provide an extra special flavor that makes the Tres Hombres Rum unique.

In Santa Cruz de la Palma, Fort-de-France, Marie-Galante, Bridgetown and Boca Chica, barrels are filled with different types of rum. Other products are also loaded on these islands, such as the cocoa beans in the Dominican Republic for this delicious chocolate.

The stopover in Horta in the Azores is mostly to stock up on food supplies but occasionally tea and tuna are also loaded there.
