Description
Nordlys returned with 3 beautiful Portuguese DOC red wines called “Westerlies” including this Nordlys Wine “Westerlies” DOC Souzão 2014.
Fairtransport collaborated with Portuguese winery Quinta do Romeu to develop a special Nordlys edition called Westerlies. The venerable ship Nordlys is only one year older than the family estate Quinta Do Romeu (founded in 1874).
Westerlies are the prevailing winds that blow from the west through the north Atlantic Ocean and drive the sails of the world's oldest cargo ship, the Nordlys (founded in 1873), from Porto to Den Helder.
The organic wine has a DOC classification, the highest classification for Portuguese wines. This mono-varietal red wine is made from the 2014 Portuguese grape Souzão, which is known for its intense color.
This grape is permitted to be grown in the Douro region, located in the central north of Portugal.
Tasting notes include flavors such as wild blackcurrant, licorice and spice.
This wine goes best with herb-roasted chicken skewers or spicy stew with chickpeas and spinach.
May the breeze be gentle and the wine inspiring!
