With the AVONTUUR, Timbercoast Cargo under Sail has been sailing goods virtually emission-free across the Atlantic since 2016.
The gaff schooner, built in 1920, has a total carrying capacity of 114 tons, capable of carrying more than 100 tons of cargo. The ship sails regularly between Germany, France,
the Canary Islands, the Caribbean, South, Central and North America and the Azores.
In addition to the regular crew, the 44-meter sailing vessel accommodates as many as ten fellow sailors who want to travel actively and sustainably.
The Hamburg-based cargo shipping project, together with an international network of trading partners in the fields of organic coffee, cocoa and spirits, supports the goal of making maritime transport sustainable, socially just, environmentally and climate-friendly. Work is underway to develop a sustainable generation of sailing cargo ships as an alternative to conventional sea transport.
