GENERAL SYNOPSIS: ON BOARD THE TRES HOMBRES
After leaving friendly -except for the bureaucracy- Setubal the Tres Hombres gently entered the Northern Atlantic Ocean again. For five people it was the end of their trip, four new ones entered and they´re all going to stay with us until Belem.
Again we had something coming with wind speed up to 25 knots, but this also means ships speed. The average speed is about 7 miles an hour, so we approach La Palma real quick.
Friday it was the 20th birthday of Joël. Eagle Eye Joël is the ships´s entertainer, occasional reverend and master climber. He entered the Tres Hombres at seventeen, has been working on a inshore cargo vessel for about a year and returned again to his Fairtransport family. we all love him. He prefers to celebrate in the next port, but some attention was paid to it the occasion.
The sailing is great, the moving landscape of high swell and waves fascinating and the temperature pleasantly rising: we have the Sahara on portside.
Yesterday bosun Signe invited me to assist her on the bowsprit to mend a torn sail. Now many, many years ago my mother taught me how to put a button on a peace of clothing. But this is something completely different. It´s a kind of sitting on a rodeo bull and try to stitch through quite rough material. My longtime experience as a motor biker helped me to keep my balance. A few showers and some overcoming water made us wet soaked, but it did not matter because of the increasing temperature and the special place on the ship, with also water below. A great place to be.

Overnight we got what we are used to. 25 knots or more in the butt. Top sail and top gallant braced square, inner jib and forestay sail tight and Yallahhhhhh riding, surfing down the waves 11 kts. What a ship, just going… I’m sorry for the two watches who stood in the rain, but well […]
They never towed and moored a sailing ship before. With a bit of ferm organization, we went up and down with the tide moored to the wall for 3 days. The cargo is on board, about 8000 bottles. The truck drivers never had to deliver 7 pallets to a boat, they couldn’t believe it. No […]
We can all feel that this day is a special one! After 3 months in the harbor, the water is moving under the hull again and the sails are de-dusted. The super refit crew Charly, Mikael (who became 2nd mate), Hanjo, Virgile, Clement, and Baloo are not in the vicinity of big tools. Their tools […]
