Every year while the ship is on the dry dock, one

Every year while the ship is on the dry dock, one of the main crucial tasks is to replace the oldest planks with new ones to secure her dryness and safety at sea. During the last weeks our crew has been working hard on it, many planks have been removed and as many have been shaped, steamed, bended and fitted in the hull and on deck.

Yesterday finally an important milestone was set: the whisky plank went in!

Do you know what a whisky plank is? Named also shutter plank, this term refers to the last plank required to close the outer shell of a wooden hull.
Tradition wants that a bottle of whisky is offered by the owner of the ship and shared between all the shipwrights and crew members who completed the job.

Installing the final plank is usually a big deal and when everything went fine and smooth what a better occasion to celebrate!
On Tres Hombres we like to respect tradition as they are, therefore instead of rhum we have been toasting with whisky after a good dear speech from Captain Andreas who congratulates to everyone expressing the gratitude the ship has for all the hard work dedicated to her.

Many thanks to our master shipwrights Andrew and Jeroen and all their assistants for the time, energy and talent given to our beloved ship. Their knowledge and skilled work is so precious not only for the vessel and the company, but also for all those who have the chance to assist them in the shipyard and learn from the best boat builders.
We value the refit times as a perfect moment to preserve craftsmanship, learning while doing is our approach and it shows to be always effective and highly satisfying.

Well done everybody!

Refit time has come! Yes, it is again that period

Refit time has come!

Yes, it is again that period of the year!
After the hard work at sea, it is time now for the ship to rest and be taken care of. You deserved it, Lady!
A five months season around Europe followed straight away after the winter journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Tres Hombres has been sailing since November last year!

A wooden ship needs lots of love and attention and even if maintenance is ongoing onboard while sailing, there are many projects which can't be done at sea. Here in her homeport in Den Helder, the ship gets emptied, lifted and put on the dry dock to be cleaned, checked, repaired, improved and painted every year.

Significant ameliorations will happen thanks to the commitment, dedication and skills of our shipyard crew members who work hard to prepare the ship for her next endeavours.
Many hands gather with the purpose to provide the best sailing conditions for the crew and the cargo.

We have no words to express how important and appreciated the work of the refit crew is.
Often, people come and join volunteering, and while doing that having fun, enjoying a friendly working environment and learning new skills, they also contribute to the bigger picture, guaranteeing the success of our mission to decarbonize maritime transport while inspiring positive changes in our community and society, showing to the world how much can be achieved when people with common goals and ethics, strong will and love for our planet melt together around a wooden creature with two masts and many sails.

And so it ends.
Tres Hombres summer trip has successfully come to its end.

We wish to tell everyone who got involved, that anything is possible with the commitment and passion that each of us pours into what we do. So, thank you all!

We are grateful and proud of our amazing, brave, skilled crewmembers, who sail the only engineless cargo vessel powered by the wind in the world, delivering fair goodness and powerful messages.

Our amazing captains Andreas and Anne-Flore, our officers Adriaan, Arthur, Rosa and Lenno. Our cooks Hannah and Jeroen. Our bosuns Collin and Jules. Our deckhands Giulia, Ida, Hanjo and Eva.
And of course, all of our trainees, who stepped on board with enthusiasm and endurance. Special mention to Merleijne who did the whole trip, counting 140 days onboard as her first time at sea!

Our office team, who works tirelessly behind the sails to be sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Our producers, our importers, our customers, our supporters. Each one of you out there who believes in what we do and contributes in many ways to the success of Tres Hombres!

We stand for the right of transporting and trading differently, embracing what nature gives, making the best out of it, stamping on the ecosystems as little as possible. We have lots to improve but we do our very best and be sure we'll always stick to it.

Dive into our selection and treat yourself with the treasures that our captain and crew collected on their sailing adventures on board the good ship Tres Hombres. Find your pleasure between the fruity, young organic Rum or his older brother, the soft and strong 15 years old La Palma Rum from the Aldea distillery. If you fancy more a Caribbean taste then go for a the 8 years old, powerful Rum from Foursquare distillery in Barbados, or the peaty rum from La Favorite in Martinique and last but not least the slightly sweeter 18 year old Dominican Republic rum from Oliver and Oliver. Like in the previous years every single rum is special, unique and irreproducible, between our carefully selected collection there is for sure one for every palate. This year as well we bottled both in small and big size to fit perfect every occasion.
