GENERAL SYNOPSIS: ON BOARD THE TRES HOMBRES
After leaving Douarnenez we picked up some good winds from the South. In the squalls we had to take sail down and up again when the squall passed. We passed Cape de la Chevre on starboard and where headed out into the Atlantic. Just about then the helicopter of the French television documentary Thallassa arrived and flew around us making footage of about an half hour. We had all sails set and it must have looked wonderful. Thallassa is making a docu about the wine we transport (Cháteau de Puy)how it is made and how it is traveling around the Atlantic going twice across the equator. They been filming loading the wine last Saturday. We will see the film crew again in the Caribbean! More weblogs to come. About the wine, Douarnenes and more. Thank you people of Douarnenez we felt very welcome.
Last night we had some beautiful sailing with constant wind and an almost cloudless night.
Sailing West as fast as we can. Tomorrow the wind will veer to the WNW so we can sail South to Portugal.
Captain Arjen van der Veen
Wonderful progress towards west yesterday. The front is passing now with rain and the wind died. We brailed up the main and braced square. It is the trimming for waiting for any kind of wind. The ship is heading north but drifts east. We can only try to drift slower what we don’t want now […]
“They call it the Caribbean of the North”…where you can have buckets of liquid sunshine and imagine coconuts growing on city lights. Welcome to the magical experience that is sailing a cargo of 19.000 bottles of natural French wines to Denmark. Telling a story about the last two weeks is not easy. So many beautiful […]
The departure maneuver in Copenhagen was super cool and smooth! It is great to move a big sailing ship like this in a harbor under sails. Nowadays being under sails inside a port is forbidden. I allowed us to do it because it’s possible and it’s very important to understand your ship under all circumstances, […]
