Last night we weathered Ile d´ Quassant on the West. This island is the most western part of France and we needed to go around it in order to reach Douarnenez. We had some squally weather during the whole day yesterday and into the night with wind everytime backing going from west to southwest. In these squalls there was rain and gust of wind. So we needed to do some reefing at time taking down some sails and setting them again after the squall past. We decided to go make a tack at the watch change 14:00 and made some West heading and tacked again towards the south at 20:00.
Now we are entering the baie de Douarnenez with 8 knots arriving into the inner harbor Port Rhu at High tide. After 4 days out from Brixham we are looking forward to some French Organic wine and Mossels and we have some stockfisk from Norway to taste tonight at the arrival party. This stockfisk is an old dish the people on this coast used to eat. Who knows, we might reintroduce to trade between Bergen Norway and Douarnenez again.
For the people that do not know about the Stockfisk. This is Cod Fish dried in the upper Norway Lavoten on racks in the wind and sun. The Stockfisk we have on board is dried in this traditional way and is a donation of Slow Fish slow Food Norway.
